He was born in Scranton, PA to parents, Joseph and Angela (nee Magnotta) Andriole. Gerald was the loving husband of 63 years to Irene Serratore Andriole; caring father to their five children (four physicians and one attorney), Joseph Andriole, MD (wife, Giancarla Miranda) of Orlando, FL, Peter Andriole, Esq. of McLean, VA, Gerald Andriole, MD (wife, Dorothy Potter, MD) of St. Louis, MO, James Andriole, DO of Tallahassee, FL, Mary Ann Andriole Wendel, DO (husband, Dan Wendel, DO) of Asheville, NC; and brother to Dolores Andriole of Moosic PA. Gerald loved his 9 grandchildren: Gerald III, Chiara, Christina, Nicholas, Ciriaco, Philip, Richard, Andrea, and Joanna.
Gerald graduated Scranton Central High School in 1943, then entered University of Scranton for just one year and then entered the Loyola School of Medicine in Chicago, IL, graduating in 1948 before he was 22. Gerald entered the US Navy in Medical School. Upon graduation he completed his internship in Scranton and then spent a year in a residency program in pathology and then urological surgical residency. He was enrolled in the US Army from 1948-55. Upon completion of his residency and fellowship, he entered into private practice as a Board Certified Urologist in 1955 in Hazleton, PA. He served his community well traveling to and caring for patients in isolated regions that had no access to his area of expertise.
In 1988, he was elected the 139th President of the prestigious Pennsylvania Medical Society and devoted his presidency to the public health issues in the state of PA.
He served as a delegate to the American Medical Association for many years, was a member of American College of Surgeons.
He was Medical Director of the St. Joseph Hospital in Hazleton from 1988-92.
He was not only a great physician but a role model as a father and mentor. His family was most important, always taking time to do things with his wife and five children. He came up at the time of the Depression, a self made man, who never lost his values and passion for learning and assisting. Gerald was an avid golfer, enjoyed reading history, loved travel, and art.
He became a resident of Sarasota in 1997 and a member of the Incarnation Parish in Sarasota and Church Lecture, Knights of Columbus, and Men's Club.

When I was a young child Dr. Andriole diagnosed and surgically corrected a condition that many other learned doctors could not explain. He was gentle and caring, aware of the fears and anxieties of a small nine yr. old girl. I am glad to read that he was also a kind and loving father and husband, admired by family and friends. Please accept my deepest sympathy for your loss. I will always think of him with deepest gratitude. It has been 56 yrs. since I saw him but I will never forget him. God Bless you all.

My mom always spoke highly of Gerald and held him in such high esteem. My first memorable encounter with him was 10 years ago at my brothers wedding. His words of wisdom left a lasting impression on me. I am very proud to call him a relative. He accomplished many great things in his life, but none so greater than raising such an impressive family. Rest in peace, and see you again some day. greg bellanca

To the Andriole Family from the Loria Family in McLean, VA; We wanted to assure you of our prayers and thoughts at this time. Trish and I have already included your father and all of the Andrioles in our Mass and prayer intentions, and we will continue to do so. Years ago, my mother passed away on December 28th. I told Peter that we now share December as a special time to celebrate Christmas and the lives of our wonderful parents.
