Adelman, Francine E. Nov. 6, 1925 - Aug. 22, 2015 Francine Elaine (née Holland) Adelman passed away peacefully on Aug. 22, 2015 at the home of her dear friend and caregiver, Dina Gadocha, in Sarasota, FL, with her children at her side. Fran wed Stanley Adelman in 1948 after meeting on a blind date and cherished their loving 65-year marriage until Stan passed away in 2013. Among her many accomplishments - Suffolk County, NY spelling champ at age 13, summa cum laude Syracuse University, managing editor of the Syracuse Daily Orange, assoc. editor of True Detective magazine, art tour producer, NY delegate to the first Nat'l Women's Conf. in 1977, founder of the Calhoun HS Substitute Enrichment Program, press secty for legislative and Congressional campaigns, VP Nassau County NOW, and much more - Fran was most proud of her tenure as president of the Merrick (NY) Library where she was a fierce champion for intellectual freedom. Fran is survived by her sons, Larry, Jim and Jon, their respective spouses, Andrea Snow, Cindy Jaynes and Nancy Adelman, and loving grandchildren, Stella, Jessica, Sam, Jake and Sophie. She will be dearly missed. Donations can be made to Planned Parenthood.

Adkins, Kenneth Eugene  
Adkins, Kenneth Eugene Mar. 5, 1936 - Aug. 23, 2015 Kenneth Eugene Adkins, 79, of Nokomis, Florida, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2015. He was born March 5, 1936 in Huntington, West Virginia and was the son of the late Fonso Adkins and Gertrude Adkins Stewart. Mr. Adkins worked for McKesson & Robbins Drug Company for 17 years. He owned a stucco and stone business for 20 years and was retired from Treadway Industries. He proudly served in the United States Army in Ohio and West Virginia and he served in the Florida National Guard for 39 years. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Rosella Adkins and Pearl Adkins, and brothers, Edward Adkins and Hartley Adkins. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sarah Adkins of Nokomis, FL; children: Teresa Adkins of Huntington, WV, Robin Burkhardt of Huntington, WV, Kenneth R. Adkins of Englewood, FL, Cheryl (Bernie) Thompson of Huntington, WV, and Amy (Matt) Creager of Nokomis, FL; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and service will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015 at Purcell Funeral Home Chapel in Bushnell, Florida. Albritton, Cathleen T. Mar. 5, 1928 - Aug. 16, 2015 Cathleen T. Albritton, 87, of Sarasota, Florida passed away on August 16, 2015. She is survived by her six children, Maggie Cabot (Ed), Rick (Patti), Clark (Cindy), Robert (Teri), Kevin and Tom. Cathy also leaves her four grandchildren, Angela (Bret), Matt, Colleen (Josh) and Reid (Tameka). She is predeceased by her husband, Buck, son, Terry and sisters Mary and Della. Cathy was past president of St. Vincent DePaul Society and was named Sarasota Jr. Woman's Club 'Girl of the Year.' She will be remembered for her determined spirit, devotion to family, friends and Incarnation Church, as well as her love for her cats and Breyers Ice Cream. Donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association or the Epilepsy Foundation. Private services were held on August 25, 2015. A memorial mass will be held at a later date.

Bates, Donna Lee Oct. 9, 1943 - Aug. 22, 2015 Donna Lee Bates, 71, of Venice, FL formerly of Benton Harbor, MI, went to be with the Lord on August 22, 2015. Donna Lee was born on November 9, 1943 in Benton Harbor, MI to William Gordon Case and Donna Louise Case (Phillips). Donna Lee was an accounts manager for Bates File, and many other businesses until she retired working for Deans Tree Service. Donna Lee was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her loving parents and her husband of 49 years James E. Bates, who passed just in April of 2015. She is survived by her loving daughter Dawn Marie, son - in-law Eddie and granddaughter Darian Marielle, all of Venice, as well as her step-daughter Ronda Angelo of Benton Harbor, MI, step-son, James Robert Bates, of MO, granddaughters, DeAnna Potter and Stephanie Edwards of MO, Krista Bates of MO and Christopher Bates of MI. Sisters, Diana Jackson of Tampa, Wilma Injasoulian, of MI, and Bonnie Stewart of Houston, TX and many other loves family and friends. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and her Celebration of Life Memorial Service will begin at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Farley Funeral Home, Venice Chapel at 265 Nokomis Ave, Venice. Breda, Ann Margaret (Sweet)  
Breda, Ann Margaret (Sweet) Jun. 1, 1931 - Aug. 23, 2015 Ann Breda, 84, passed away at The Springs nursing facility in Sarasota, FL. Born in Norwich, CT, she was the daughter of the late Martha and Charles Sweet. Ann was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy and was a RN from the mid 1950s-late 1970s at various hospitals and convalescent homes. She was married to William Breda on March 7, 1953 in Norwich and raised her family in East Hampton, CT. In 1967 Ann and Bill purchased her family's property on Gardner Lake and developed Laurel Lock Campground which they operated thru 1995. They continued to spend summers at the campground while residing at Captiva Island, Venice,and Sarasota. Ann had a life-long love of music and enjoyed crafts, swimming, reading, walking and shelling on the beach. They were long-time members of Chapel By The Sea on Captiva Island where Ann volunteered. Ann is survived by her husband William Breda of Sarasota, and her four children: Valerie Breda Hornat and her husband Peter of Glastonbury; William Breda Jr. and his wife Lyn of Sarasota; Crystal Andruskewicz of Oakdale and Kathryn Breda Hornat and her husband Tom of Groton as well as 7 grandchildren: Brian (and wife Sara) and Robert Andruskewicz; Alexander and Peter Hornat; Ashley and Kelsey Breda and Christopher Hornat. A Christian Celebration of Life service will be held at Ann's homestead at Laurel Lock Campground September 6. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in loving memory to Tidewell Hospice, Philanthropy Department, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, Florida 34238.
