Alyce Dafnis, 87, went home to Heaven on Thursday, December 26, 2013, after a lengthy illness. She was raised in Pierre, South Dakota, and was awarded a B.S. degree from the University of South Dakota. She was a journalist and college magazine editor, a member of Alpha XI Delta. It was at USD that she met her loving husband of 65 years, David Dafnis. After they married she began her career as a Social Worker in South Dakota. In 1961 they joined her parents to live in Sarasota, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Bea Myers, and brother Jack. Alyce is survived by her husband David, children David M. (Rayne), Dana, Judy (Robert), and Jeff. She was blessed with seven grandchildren Chase, Lara, Gaelan, Siobhan (Nicholas), Cuinn, Kylie, and Grady who gave her great joy.
Alyce was an accomplished bridge player. She enjoyed writing poetry, singing, playing cards, and was an avid reader. She treasured her grandchildren, and loved the beach, shopping, and decorating. Alyce was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend to all who knew her and will be missed deeply by those whose hearts she touched.
A memorial service will be held at the Sarasota National Cemetery on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Tidewell Hospice of Sarasota.
