Audrey A. Smigay, 77 died March 14, 2013 at Life Care Center of Sarasota. Audrey graduated from Joliet Township High School, Joliet Illinois; received her BA from University of Illinois and a MA from Michigan State University. Audrey began her teaching career in California, and went on to travel the world teaching for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools in Okinawa, Japan, Libya, Germany, Korea, and Italy. She embraced the cultures of her host countries with exuberance and charm. She was an active member of the Catholic Curcillo Movement while in Korea. A dedicated educator, Audrey held leadership positions in teacher and parent organizations. Upon her retirement in Sarasota, she was an active communicant and lector at St Martha Roman Catholic Church. Audrey enjoyed the arts and culture of Sarasota. The daughter of the late Andrew and Josephine Smigay, she was preceded in death by her niece Laura J. Smigay. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Julia Smigay of West Columbia, SC, her niece and nephew-in-law Sandra Smigay and Carlos Davila of Alexandria, VA. Audrey will be remembered by her family and her loving friends as a vibrant personality and a caring friend. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St Martha's Roman Catholic Church or the . A funeral mass is planned for Tuesday March 19, at St Martha Roman Catholic Church.
