Barbara O'Brien

O'Brien, Barbara
Nov. 28, 1924 - Jun. 10, 2013
Barbara O'Brien, resident of Bradenton for more than forty years, passed away on June 10, 2013 at the age of 88. She was loved by all who knew her because of her great spirit and positive outlook. In the course of her life, she married Martin O'Brien in 1948 and they were blessed with five children. She was also well known for her athleticism and having won the title of Woman's golf champion at the Bradenton Country Club. Prior to moving to Florida, Barbara also won the Journal-American Bowling Championship. A little known fact was that she was a bit of a daredevil, having water-skied under the George Washington Bridge in New York. More than anything though, she was totally devoted to her family which includes her six grandchildren. A highlight in her life occurred on the occasion of her fiftieth anniversary when her children surprised their Mom and Dad with a private dinner cruise for family and friends on the Hudson River in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty. She considered herself one of the luckiest women she knew. But everyone who knew Barbara considered themselves lucky to have known her. Barbara was widowed in recent years but is survived by sons, David (Lisa) of Bradenton, FL, Thomas (Leanne) of Ellenton, FL, and Stephen (Linda) of Parrish, FL; daughters, Patty O'Brien Hamilton of Danvers, MA and Kathleen (John) Cucci of Bradenton, FL; grandchildren, Nick, Shannon, Kevin, John, Michael and Anna. Visitation 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, June 21, 2013 with services to follow at 7:00 PM at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West, Bradenton, FL 34209. Memorial donations to Tidewell Hospice, Inc. 5955 Rand Blvd. Sarasota, FL 34238. Condolences www.brownandsonsfuneral.com.
