Betty J Pritchard of Sarasota passed away peacefully April 8, 2014 she was 93. Betty moved to Sarasota with her young family from Richmond Indiana in 1961. She was an enthusiastic person who loved her family, music and did much for Sarasota and the Arts. She is survived by her husband William H (Bill) Pritchard; her brother Jim Jefferis; children, Alice Pritchard, Dave (Cathy); Willie Pritchard (Sandi); grandchildren, Lauren, Julie and Kiley Pritchard, Valarie Duhl (Clayton), Brooks Hansard (Catherine) and Sarah Pritchard; and two great grand children. Born in Greenville, Ohio she graduated from The Ohio State University and was a United Airlines stewardess following World War II. After moving to Sarasota she became active in countless community organizations. Betty was part of the original group of people who formed the Ringling Art School Town Hall Lecture Series that is still in existence today. She was Town Hall Chairman in 1980-81 and a board member of the Ringling Library Association as well as the Sarasota Opera Guild and the FL West Coast Symphony (Sarasota Orchestra) for many years. Betty was a member of the Bird Key Yacht Club and Sarasota Bay Country Club. She started one of Sarasota's oldest existing businesses, Pritchards Pianos, with her husband Bill and son Dave. Betty's calendar was full every day with meetings, luncheons, parties, dinner engagements with friends, shows, theater, golf games, but always making time for family, especially grandchildren. Betty loved to travel; she enjoyed playing the piano, singing, dancing and painting. She loved almost anything in life that connected her to people. A Memorial service and celebration of Betty's life will be held Saturday April 19 at 3 pm at the Sarasota Bay Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's research.
