Jan. 7, 1942 - Oct. 3, 2013
Carol Hill Faber, 71, died on October 3, 2013 of a sudden heart attack. She was born January 7, 1942 in Los Angeles, CA and grew up in Durham, NC, where her father taught at Duke University. She attended Radcliffe College and the University of Illinois
and graduated from Empire State College in 1977.
She had been a Montessori teacher and administrator since 1975, most recently at Island Village Montessori Charter School in Venice, Florida.
She co-founded what is now the Elizabeth Ann Clune Montessori School in Ithaca, NY. The fact that it continues to be a model of excellence among Montessori schools was always a source of deep pride to her. In 1972 she published a book, popular among Montessori homeschoolers, called Montessori on a Limited Budget.
After moving to Sarasota, FL from Ithaca, NY, Carol played tennis nearly every day at the Serendipity Racquet Club.
She is survived by her husband, Don Faber of Osprey, FL; her sister, Katherine Noyes of Knoxville, TN; her four children, Thomas Hallowell Hill of Verplanck, NY, Catherine Alison Hill, Sara Hill Collina, and Dana Edward Hill, all of Takoma Park, MD; as well as her 11 grandchildren: Thomas Dietrich Hill, Frederica Van Horne Hill, Parker Isabella Piccolo Hill, Bixby Quentin Piccolo Hill, Walker Brockett Piccolo Hill, Griffin Italo Piccolo Hill, Jared Samman Collina, Natalie Rose Collina, Lucy Isabelle Collina, Thomas Collier Hill, and Miles James Hill.
There will be a service in her memory at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 508 Riviera St., Venice, FL on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to either the Elizabeth Ann Clune Montessori School at www.eacmsi.org/giving
or to the Island Village Montessori Charter School, 2001 Pinebrook Road, Venice, FL 34292.
Her quick mind and gentle heart lives on in her family, students, and loved ones.
