Catherine E. Devan (Kay) passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at her home in Sarasota, Florida. Catherine was born in Philadelphia, PA, on March 25, 1919, and raised in Lock Haven, PA. She served in WWII-Navy Waves and worked as the Executive Secretary to Admiral John McCain, Jr. in the Department of Personnel Management in Washington, DC. She sang with big band greats Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey and Nelson Riddle.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Attorney Joseph F. Devan, originally from Manchester, NH, her brother William Lee of Lock Haven, PA, her sister Margaret Lee-James of Lock Haven and Sarasota, and her granddaughter Kristen Beth Brennan of Albuquerque, NM. She is survived by daughters Janet K. Brennan (Art) of Albuquerque, NM, Peggie L. Devan of Sarasota, FL. Patricia D. Barrett of Foresthill, CA, and four grandchildren-Katherine N. Luke (Austin) of Albuquerque, NM, Nick D. Brennan (Brianna) of CO, Joseph. P. Barrett of Sacramento, CA, and Leah M. Barrett of Foresthill, CA. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Kay was a founding member in the building of Saint Thomas More Church. She was a member of the parish choir for several years. She also participated in several Gulf Gate Golf leagues and activities and was a past president of the Gulf Gate Women's Golf League .
Services for Catherine E. Devan are on August 2, 2013, at 9 am with a small reception to follow, at Saint Thomas More Church on Gulf Gate Dr. in Sarasota.
