Charles F. "Charlie" Marden, 93, North Port, formerly of Rockford, IL died on Nov. 1, 2013.
He is survived by Gloria, his loving wife of 11 years; daughter, Barbara Leaf-Maseman of Loves Park, IL; son, William Marden of New York, NY; three step-children; two grandchildren: Troy Leaf of Byron, IL and Abigail Marden of New York, NY; six step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary who died in 1998 and a brother, Franklin, who died at age 11 in 1919.
Charlie grew up in Quincy, IL and enlisted in the U.S. Army in World War II. A staff sergeant with the 101st Airborne, he served in both the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge, where he earned both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
He was a technical engineer in the broadcasting industry, with 33 years at WTVO-TV in Rockford.
Charlie loved travel, the outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of San Pedro Catholic Church.
