Mr. Charlie Lathrop Guyer, III, 84, of Athens, Georgia, died on Feb. 12, 2013. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sat., at Athens First Methodist Church in Athens, Georgia. Funeral arrangements by: Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, Georgia.
Charles "Charlie" Lathrop Guyer, III born May 15, 1928, in Savannah, Georgia passed away February 12th in Sarasota, Florida.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 60 years Loretta "Jerry" Alexander Guyer of Athens, GA; his sister, Gloria Guyer Driggers; his children, Gary Lathrop Guyer and his wife, Barbara, and their children, Lane, Allison and her husband, Josh, Lath and Rhett, of Athens, GA; Charme Guyer Bradberry and her husband, Jeb, and their children, Lori and her husband, Sam, Buck and his wife, Meggie, and her husband, Scott, of Athens, GA; and Charles Greg Guyer and his wife, Lisa, and their children, Savannah, Grant and Greer, of Wyndmoor, PA; and 3 great-grandchildren, Walker, Charlie, and Tullis.
Charlie was a faithful member of the First Methodist Church of Athens for 60 years, where he served as a Board Member and Sunday School Teacher. He also taught a Bible study up to the day of his passing in their Sarasota community.
He graduated from Savannah High School in 1948. He then went into the service as a United States Navy
Seabee in Guam. After the service, he then went to the University of Georgia
on a scholarship as a swimmer, where he excelled as a two-time NCAA All American in the Butterfly in 1951 and 1952 and lead UGA to back to back SEC Men Championships in those years for the only time in the university's history. He was a member of Chi Phi.
He then went on to become President of Alexander Wood Products from 1958 to 1990. During that time he was President, Athens Touchdown Club, member or the Athens Country Club, Gridiron Society, and the City Club.

Funeral Services will be 2PM Saturday, February 16th, at the Athens First Methodist Church with Rev. Chuck Hodges and Jerry Varnado officiating. Immediately after the service there will be a reception at Hancock Hall at the Church.
