Clarence (Clay) Long crossed over to Heaven on March 22,2013 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinsons Disease. He was born in Sarasota, FL on April 24, 1943. He was predeceased by his father, Clarence (Shorty) Long, Jr. and his mother, Hope Marsden Long, also, brother Edward James Long.
He attended Southside Elementary, Brookside Junior High and graduated from Riverview High School in 1961. He graduated from Manatee Junior College and many Banking Institute courses as well as teaching them. His long and distinguished banking career began at United First Federal Savings and Loan, and continued with Barnett Bank where he was the Senior Vice President /Retail Sales Manager. He retired from Banking in 1998 after a successful career with Huntington Bank as the head of the Private Bank Group. He was a dedicated Sarasota Jaycee for many years serving as president in 1970-71. In later years he volunteered at the Lighthouse for the Blind, Selby Gardens and was a board member of AMI Kids School. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary (Cafaro) Long , his daughter and son-in-law, Kim and John Zipperer, his son, Clayton and Wife Cori. His grandsons, who he loved dearly, Colton and Wife, Heather Zipperer, JC and Shane Zipperer and Brandon Long. Also, the light of his life, his little buddy, great grandson, Levi Jordan Zipperer. He loved watching his grandson's play sports and was a devoted FSU Football fan. We love you, we miss you, you will forever be in our hearts and never forgotten. A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers , a memorial may be made to Tidewell Hospice,5955 Rand Blvd, Sarasota, FL. 34238.
