Dorothy McSweeney, 82, a former resident of Arlington and Shrewsbury, MA, passed away unexpectedly on April 2, 2013 in Sarasota, FL. Mrs. McSweeney graduated from Framingham State College in 1952, and taught home economics for many years at Ottoson Junior High in Arlington. She enjoyed entertaining and gardening. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard McSweeney, and a son, Dennis O'Brien, of Bedford, MA. She is survived by her children, Kathryn Rich of Port Charlotte, FL; Lawrence O'Brien of Gainesville, FL; Dr. Rosemary O'Brien of Cape Coral, FL; and Kerin Casazza of Pepperell, MA; her stepchildren in Massachusetts, Ellyn of Arlington, Richard of Weymouth, James of Dorchester, Maura of Holden, and Robert and Stephen of Shrewsbury; and 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Muriel Sullivan of St. Petersburg, FL, her brother-in-law and his wife, William and Anne McSweeney of Sarasota; and sisters-in-law Patricia Lemaire of Sarasota and Phyllis Lane of Miami. Memorial service and burial will be held April 13 at 10:30 am, at The Church of St. Patrick, 7900 Bee Ridge Rd., Sarasota.
