Edward A. Kussler, 88, Lincolnshire, IL. passed away peacefully on Monday December 24, 2012, at Radford Green Health Care Center in Lincolnshire, IL. He was born on December 10, 1924 in Morris, IL, the son of August and Marie Rumpf Kussler. He received his education in Morris and graduated from Morris High School in 1942. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from Purdue University, Lafayette, IN, and earned an MBA from Roosevelt University, Chicago, IL.
Edward married the love of his life Mary Jo Weimer on August 9, 1944 in Pueblo, CO. He then served as a Second Lieutenant in the in the Army Air Corps in World War 11. He was part of 767th Bomb Squadron 461st Bomb Group 15th Air Force Mediterranean Theatre. His plane was shot down and was a prisoner of war and missing in action for over four months.
Upon his return, he rejoined Mary Jo and together they made their home in Deerfield, IL. for 50 years. For the last 17 years they made their winter home in Sarasota, FL. where he enjoyed fishing, swimming, walking, and watching the dolphins perform in Sarasota Bay.
He also enjoyed playing tennis, reading, sports, and the botanical gardens along with spending time with his friends, family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Edward was a member of St. Gregory's Episcopal Church in Deerfield, IL. and All Angels By The Sea Church in Longboat Key, FL.
Surviving are his loving family; three children, Valerie (John) Rohrbaugh, St. Louis, MO.; Bobette (Charlie) Dodson, St. Charles, IL. and Thomas (Karen) Kussler, Cedarburg, WI; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; he was preceded by his wife Mary Jo Kussler, April 29, 2012, his parents, and three sisters.
Private memorial services at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church in Deerfield, IL and inurnment with Military Honors under the direction of the Morris Color Guard at Evergreen Cemetery in Morris, IL. will be conducted on January 5, 2013.
