Dr. George Nixon passed away peacefully at his home in Venice, FL on April 2, 2013. He was born in Morgantown, WV on March 23, 1929 to the late Dr. George Nixon, Sr. and Iva Nixon. His sister, Alice Kunsch preceded him in death.
George graduated from Alliance Ohio High School in 1948 and The Ohio State University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1954. He joined his father in practice at the Alliance Animal Hospital, Inc. in 1954 and practiced small animal medicine until retirement in 1991. George served 13 years on the Alliance Board of Health and was active in the Alliance Rotary Club. Dr. Nixon is a life member of the American Animal Hospital Association, American Veterinary Medical Association and The Ohio State University Alumni Association.
George and his wife, June Ellis Nixon have been blessed with 63 years of marriage and a very beloved family: Kimberly and Anker Bell, Sandra and Jan Holtzman, Susan and Edward Velardi; grandchildren: Madison Bell, Andersen Bell, and Liadain Velardi; and grand-dogs: Bea, Allie and Kate, and McGoo and June Bug.
Dr. Nixon is a member of Englewood United Methodist Church. He will be inurned at a later date in Alliance Ohio. Remembrance in honor of Dr. Nixon may be made to TideWell Hospice, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238 www.tidewell.org.
