Harlan Taylor Obituary

Taylor, Harlan Robert "Bob"
Jan. 17, 1927 - May 28, 2012
Bob was the third born child of Carlton Harold Taylor (1902 - 1986) and Florence Rozella 'Rowe' Taylor (1905 - 1980) in St. Louis, Gratiot County, Michigan on Jan 17th of 1927. He passed away as the result of an aggressive cancer, diagnosed earlier this year, at the age of 85 on May 28, 2012. He served in the Air Corps towards the end of World War II in Alaska as an airplane mechanic. Following his service in the Air Corps he joined his father and brothers at Taylor's Sales and Service Packard automobile dealership in St. Louis, Michigan and later in Saginaw, Michigan. He was married to Louise D. Virginia Stacy on April 12th of 1947 in Alma, Michigan and they had three children, Thomas Herbert Taylor, Janet Kay 'Taylor' Warfield and Nancy Louise 'Taylor' Coffin. Following the failure of the Packard automobile company the dealership was closed and the family was relocated to Sarasota, Florida in 1957. His parents Carl and Florence had preceded them in relocating to Sarasota. Bob was employed by West Coast Motors in Sarasota, a previous Packard dealership where he worked in the service department overhauling up to two automatic transmissions a day or installing after market air conditioning units in the fleet of 1950's cars without that relatively new feature. Upon the death of the owner of West Coast Motors and it being closed, Bob went to work for Cooke Cadillac - Oldsmobile as a mechanic in Feb. 1961 and eventually retired from Coast Cadillac (successor to Cooke) in Feb of 1988, however, he continued to help with driving new and used car trades between dealerships for Coast Cadillac for another 19 years. Bob was preceded in death by his brother Carl Francis 'Bud' Taylor (1924 - 2005) and his daughter Nancy Coffin (1956 - 1988). He is survived by his wife Louise, sister Evelynn Louise 'Sis' Holland and his brother William 'Bill' Taylor, as well as, his son Thomas H. Taylor, grandson Andrew Robert Taylor, granddaughters Kristina 'Kris' Louise Taylor 'Byrnes' and Laura Ann Taylor, daughter Janet Kay Warfield, grandsons Anthony Brian Warfield, Robert Douglas Warfield, Nicholas Harlan Coffin and Brian Clare Coffin. He also had six great grandchildren, Jonathan Coy, Elizabeth Rachel Ann Coy, Tiffany Amber Warfield, Elle Marie Taylor, Owen Patrick Taylor Byrnes and Luke Winters Taylor. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church, 7601 SR 72, Sarasota. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Palms-Robarts Funeral Home. Wishing I could be there today with all the family, you will all be in my thoughts. I have only good memories of Uncle Bob, thankful that he was here to help my Dad with the cottage years ago. ( he pushed my Dad to put in the second bathroom right away and not wait for which we are all grateful!!) Sue Paul - niece

I am so glad that you "woke up" the end of March for a couple of days so Mark & I could have a nice visit with you. I used to love to talk to you about cars & the latest bells & whistles on the new Cadillacs. You are now with Nancy & that does give me some comfort. We'll miss you Grandpa.

It took us years to figure out how you made that clicking noise in our ears with your ring.

When we would come to visit in Florida we loved to go for rides in Old Blue and to run around your garden chasing chameleons.

I hope you're at peace.
