Herb A. Cote, 80, of Venice, FL, formerly of Attleboro, MA, died on April 3, 2014.
He was born January 25, 1934 in Attleboro, MA, the son of Dorothy and Alex Ankevitz. He served as a Navy Seal during the Korean War and had an amazing talent for woodwork which he made his living with. He was the owner of HA Cote Architectural Company in Attleboro, MA. He moved to Florida in 1988 and worked at Caldwell Banker as a realtor, with Clover Interiors as a cabinetmaker, at Publix and enjoyed many years as a Bridge Tender at Casey Key and Hatchett Creek.
He enjoyed reading Maritime History books and loved to cook, especially for his family and large groups. He enjoyed fishing and any time spent by or on the water, as well as spending time at his second home in Bristol, NH on Newfound Lake. He was involved in his community as a Past Grand Master of the Masonic Order, Blue Lodge of North Attleboro, MA, he was a Power Squadron Navigational Instructor and founding member of the NAHS Band Parents where both his sons enjoyed the schools music programs. Herb was an active member and volunteered extensively with the Centenary United Methodist Church in Attleboro, MA. Herb also enjoyed the friendship of his self-adopted Cambodian family. He was proud to have received a Presidential Citation from President Harry Truman.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Cote of Venice, FL; his son Bill and wife Dianne of Rehoboth, MA and his son Mike and husband Jim of Naples, FL; his brother, Richard and wife Beth, as well as extended family and wonderful friends.
