Iris J. Blankman of Venice, FL, formerly of Maryland, passed away Feb. 18, 2013. Iris was born in 1927 to the late Harold and Elizabeth Jacobs, and is survived by her husband Howard of almost 62 years, son Jon and wife Shelly of Columbia, MD; daughters Aimee McKenzie and husband Jim of Hanover, PA and Jodie Handelsman and husband Walt of Woodbury, NY; sister Rona Jaffe and husband Seth of Nokomis, FL; grandsons Scott Plopi, Shane McKenzie, James and Billy Handelsman , Richard and Joshua Blankman, and great-grandchildren Landon and Brent, Plopi. Iris is preceded in death by grandson Jared Plopi. She was an active member of the Jewish Congregation of Venice. With her husband she was co-owner and publisher of several local Maryland newspapers. An accomplished knitter, Iris was also involved in and adored the theatre. She also loved composing poetry and was active in a Venice poetry group for many years. Services and burial will be held Thursday, Feb. 21, at 11 AM at the Jewish Congregation of Venice, 600 N. Auburn Rd. in Venice.
