John Carroll, Jr., 93, of Sarasota, FL, died on Jan. 22, 2013.
Mr. Carroll is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Helen D. Carroll; a son, Christopher A. Carroll of Charleston, WV; a daughter, Kathleen M. Carroll of Gettysburg, PA; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Mr. Carroll was born in Norwich, CT and was a graduate of the Norwich Free Academy and of Becker College in Worchester, MA. He served in the US Army in World War II and was attached to the Supreme Headquarters, Allied Expeditionary Force. After completing his wartime service, Mr. Carroll worked for Colt Manufacturing in Hartford, CT and then for the state of Connecticut where he served for over 20 years. He retired as chief financial officer for the CT Department of Corrections and relocated to Sarasota where he and his wife resided for over 30 years.
Mr. Carroll was an avid golfer, a volunteer at Ed Smith Stadium and a volunteer driver for the Senior Friendship Center. He was a baseball enthusiast and a lifelong New York Yankees fan. He was also an active member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Gulf Gate. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 9:30 AM at St. Thomas More.
