John D. Young, 76 of Sarasota, passed away Jan. 20, 11:30 pm. He was born Dec. 1, 1936 at Crawfordsville, IN to Dudley Young and Barbara (Anderson) Young, both deceased.
He is survived by his beloved, Maryann Baker; his daughter from his first marriage, Sherry Holroyd (Seattle); sister, Suzanna Young; brother, Richard A. Young and wife, Deanna; grandson, William L. Holroyd, his wife Rianna and two children (of Seattle). John's family came to Englewood, Florida in 1949; he graduated from Venice/Nokomis High in 1955; and earned a business degree at USF. He served in the Army Reserve. He worked for Honeywell Corp. in Fla. and Texas; and later at mobile home manufacturing co. in Thompson, Georgia as a production mgr. He once owned and operated Young Motors, a VW repair and sales in Nokomis, worked for Sarasota Co. and later, All Florida Grassing who "greened" commercial sites and our roadsides. John a "motorhead" loved classic cars, flying his Comanche, motorcycling, (even riding mowers), among other pursuits. Having a larger than life personality, John enjoyed joking around and always had a joke to share.
Memorial service will be at the Venice Seventh Day Adventist Church, 2375 Seaboard Ave., Venice, FL, Friday, Jan. 25 at 3:00 PM followed by a reception. He will be missed by his sweetheart, Maryann and all of us. For any info. call 941-753-7433 or 941-496-7896.
