Slack, Leo James, Jr.

Leo, age 78, was a longtime resident of Deer Creek and formerly of PA and CA. Born in Weymouth, MA, he was a graduate of John Carroll University.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; three sons, Michael Slack and wife, Ching Fang Chang of S. Pasadena, CA , Steven Slack of Astoria, NY, David Slack II and wife, Lori, and three grandchildren, Melanie, Colin and Christian Slack of Chapel Hill, NC, and two step children, Andrew Novoshielski of Phoenixville, PA, and Kerri Novoshielski of Leesburg, VA; his brother, David and wife, Linda of Tampa, FL; sister, Stephanie Herrick of Greensboro, VT, and several beloved nieces and nephews. He was especially proud of his three sons who were PHD's and renowned in their fields of solar energy, rocket science and computers.
Leo was a member of ROTC and the US Army. He was a former member of both Waynesboro Country Club in PA and Laurel Oak Country Club in FL. Leo spent his time playing golf, cards, enjoying music, following the Yankees and was a voracious reader. He had visited all 50 states in the US and was an extensive world traveler, with mineral traders and friends throughout the world. He worked for 30 years as a VP of Marketing and Sales for Combustion Engineering, selling screening and mining equipment and pioneering basic mineral bulk import and refining in the USA.
The family will receive friends Friday afternoon, Jan. 25, 2013 at 2:00 PM for a viewing at Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home at 7454 South Tamiami Trail in Sarasota, FL. A celebration of his life will be held afterwards at his residence. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name to the Autism Society of North Carolina would be greatly appreciated.
