Linda Lee Ishmael Smith, 78, of Sarasota, FL died January 3, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julia Mae Kimbrell Ishmael and James Lee Ishmael, husband, Douglas Riddell Smith, infant daughter, Kimber and brother, Marshall Ishmael. Linda is survived by a son, Curtis Smith, of Florida and a daughter, Melinda Smith, of Wisconsin. She is also survived by 2 sisters and 1 brother living in Oklahoma and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends Ayse & Ergun Somersan of Sarasota, FL.
Linda graduated Jenks High School, OK as the Salutatorian. She held a Masters degree from University of Illinois where she met her husband Doug. Linda worked as an educator for public schools in 4 states. Believing in "life-long learning", she established an innovative Continuing Education Program at the University of Wisconsin Center from 1969-1990. Linda will be remembered for her athletic abilities, love of reading, boating, bird watching, crossword puzzles, world traveling and collection of sun faces. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A private service for family will be held in February, where her ashes will be scattered at sea.
