Born September 4, 1948 in Indianapolis, Indiana, Lois was a graduate of Northwest High School and went on to graduate from Indiana University with a degree in Elementary Education. She grew up attending St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, and was later a member of Northminster Presbyterian and Holy Spirit at Geist. She welcomed her parents into her home as they grew older, and was always looking for ways to help friends and family in need.
In her youth she swam for the Indianapolis Dolphin Club and developed a lifelong love for swimming. She was an active tennis player, belonging to the Indianapolis Racquet Club for many years, and playing on an organized community team in Sarasota. Lois also loved animals and had pets she loved dearly throughout her life.
