Louis J. Colombo (81), formerly of Warwick, RI, passed away December 26, 2013 in Sarasota, FL. He was the beloved husband of Beverly (Trainor) Colombo. Born in Attleboro, MA, a son of the late Luigi Colombo and Mary Jane (Crecca) Colombo. He is survived by his wife, Beverly, children Mark (Annette) Colombo, Cheryl (Robert) Tyrell, Lea (Jerry) Slaughter and Greg (Nancy) Colombo, eight grandchildren, and one great granddaughter.
Louis was graduated from Attleboro High School and the University of MA-Amherst. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He worked as the superintendent of Hammersmith Farm in Newport, RI, leaving to work at the University of RI as the Assistant Director of the Physical Plant. He later retired from the City of Providence Parks Department as its Assistant Director, retiring to Sarasota, FL.
Lou enjoyed his volunteer work. He was a recipient of the Presidential Award from Marie Selby Botanical Gardens for his many years of volunteer service. In addition, he volunteered for the Sarasota Opera House, Sarasota Personal Computer Users Group (SPCUG) and served the Oakwood Manor community.
He was Past Master of King Solomon's Masonic Lodge #11 in East Greenwich, RI and a member of the Sarasota Masonic Lodge #147.
There will be an internment service on January 21, 2014, 11:00 AM at the Sarasota National Veterans Cemetery.
