Mack Johnson, 90, of Venice, Florida died on May 10, 2014 at Venice Regional Medical Center. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service and burial will be held at the Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, FL on Friday, July 25, 2014, at 11 a.m. Arrangements are being handled by the National Cremation & Burial Society.
Mack was born in Ashbysburg, Kentucky to Mack and Ethel Carlisle Johnson. After attending grade and high school in Kentucky, he worked in Michigan before joining the United States Army
. Mack was a WWII
Veteran, serving in Europe as a 1st Lieutenant under Gen. George Patton. He received the Silver Star, Bronze Star
, Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Purple Heart
for his service.
Mack was a 1950 graduate of Michigan Technological University with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering and Business Administration. He began his career as a sales engineering trainee with Square D. In 1965 Mack joined Ideal Industries of Sycamore, Illinois, as Director of Corporate Planning, rising to president and CEO in 1973. He held these positions until his retirement on October 1, 1985.
Mack and Donna Ricchiardi were married in DeKalb, Illinois on November 15, 1974, and lived in Sycamore, IL until retiring to Florida. Donna survives in Venice. Mack is also survived by a son, Daniel Mack Johnson and a daughter, Deborah Jane Johnson, both of California, and a daughter Julie Ann (husband Gregg) Lauer of Colorado and three grandchildren: Jesse Mack Johnson, Casey Michael Arnett, and Camille Lauer. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Ann Combs, and grandsons Michael Combs and Daniel L. Johnson.
