Max J. Green, 87, of Sarasota, formerly of Pittsburgh, died on April 7 at the Benderson Skilled Nursing Unit at Anchin Pavilion. A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, April 9 at 11:15 am in the Anchin Chapel. His burial in Coraopolis, PA, will be scheduled in the coming months.
Born in Pittsburgh to the late Tillie and William Green, he was raised in Ambridge, PA, and graduated from Ambridge High School. He served in the U.S. Navy
in the Pacific from 1943 to 1946 as an electronic technician. After his discharge, he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1948. He was a member of the Phi Epsilon Pi fraternity.
Upon graduation, he joined his father in the family sporting goods business, the Ambridge Army & Navy Store. He married the former Victoria Grunberg in 1953, and they made their home in Sewickley, PA for over 30 years, until her death in 1986. In 1989 he married Arlene Lang Green, and they have resided in Sarasota since 1995. Max enjoyed skiing, tennis, and sailing.
He is survived by his wife Arlene, and two children, Michael (Eva) Green, Ph.D., of Oak Park, CA, and Ellen (Dale) Green Morton, who resides in Woodstock, IL. His step children are David Lang of Irvine, CA, Sheryl Richards of Bedford, IN, and Immanuel Legomsky of Jerusalem, Israel. His grandchildren include Viktoria & Ellis Larson Green of Oak Park, Lora Larson-Miller of Houston, TX, Levi and Jeremy Morton of Woodstock, IL, and Katy Key of Bedford, IN.
