Robert E. Beattie, 85, of Sarasota died Monday, November 12 at Lakewood Ranch Hospital. Bob was President and owner of Wm. J. Scown Building Company for over 35 years in Chicago, IL. He was honorably discharged from the U. S. Army after serving in Austria as an M.P. during WWII. After leaving the service, Bob moved to the Chicago area where he lived and raised his family. He served with the Coast Guard Auxiliary for many years, retiring as a coxswain in charge of search and rescue on the South end of Lake Michigan before moving to Sarasota.
Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alice Angle Beattie. He has two daughters, Catherine Neuharth of Albuquerque, N.M. and Caren Beattie of Sarasota, FL, and a Son, Robert Beattie of Wilmette, IL. There are four Grand Children, John E. Benz IV of Chicago, IL, Kathryn B. Shectman of Pittsboro, NC., Natalie J. Beattie and Hallie E. Beattie both of Wilmette, IL. Also two great-grand sons, Oliver I. Shectman and Russell A. Shectman, of Pittsboro, NC. A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Nativity on Lockwood Ridge Rd. at 11:00 AM on Friday November 15. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the , or the Church of the Nativity.
