Salvatore F. Monteforte, 97, of Sarasota passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013. Born in Hoboken, New Jersey, he had been a local resident since 1979. In World War II he served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army, and was a radio operator at General Patton's headquarters during the North African Campaign. He also served in the Sicilian and Italian Campaigns, and was awaiting transfer to the Pacific Theatre when the war ended. Prior to his retirement he had owned and operated a hardware business in Hoboken, NJ. Mr. Monteforte was a member with the American Legion, the V.F.W. and the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing. Survivors include his loving wife of 72 years, Agnes; sons, Nickolas; Gary; daughter, Hedy; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services will be private. Interment will be at Sarasota National Cemetery.
