Thomas J. Poznanski, 86, of Sarasota passed away on December 4, 2013 while in Hospice care. Beloved husband, he is survived by his wife of 64 years, Esther. His family includes son, Thomas (Diane) Poznanski, daughter, Gail (Thomas) Robinson, brother, Stephen (Toby) Poznanski, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous dear friends. He has been a resident of Sarasota, FL since 1985 when he and his wife relocated from New Jersey.
He was in the United States Army, First Cavalry, where he worked as a medic in occupied Japan after World War II. Upon returning to the states, he completed his degree from Seton Hall University and then worked as an industrial chemist at Merck & Company. He returned to the classroom and became a math and chemistry teacher at Union County Technical Institute in Scotch Plains, NJ. He was a natural athlete who took great pleasure in playing golf and softball for many years. He also enjoyed music, dancing, and gardening immensely. His greatest devotion, however, was to his home, family, and friends.
He was a member of the Sarasota South Elks and VFW Post 3233.
Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
