Tom Carr, beloved husband of 61 years to Juanita Marie Carr and loving father to Sharon Marie Carr, died peacefully in his sleep on July 18th with his family by his side.
Tom spent his youth living in Jamestown, RI in the summer while his father managed The Dunes Club in Narragansett and his winters in Sarasota, FL while his father managed the John Ringling Hotel. He attended St. Leo Prep School and later served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Tom then became a permanent resident and business man in Sarasota.
Tom worked with his father, Charles Henry Carr, at the Ringling Hotel and then as assistant manager after his brother, John J. Carr took over as manager. Tom managed the Sarasota Motor Hotel and the Viking Room at Azures Tides before he became owner/operator of Mrs. O'Leary's Pub in Gulf Gate. Later, he managed the Gulf and Bay Club on Siesta Key and was the condominium assoc. manager at Laurel Oaks Country Club before he retired. He most recently spent his time helping out at his daughter Sharon's restaurant, Carr's Corner Café, where he was also friend to many of the patrons.
In addition, Tom is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Anne Loughlin, of Wrentham, MA and his brother, Robert J. Carr, of Sarasota.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 from 5PM - 7PM at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, 40 N. Orange Ave, Sarasota, FL, 34236. Funeral service will be on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 11AM at the Church of St. Patrick, 7900 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, FL, 34241. Burial to follow at 1:30PM at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Highway 72, Sarasota, FL, 34241.
