Verna Brackett Kirby died on Feb. 3, 2013 at a Venice, Florida hospital.
She was born in Bucksfield, ME, Sept. 2, 1913 to Vernon Kilby Brackett and Mary Eliza Wallace Brackett. Verna attended junior high and high school in Canton, MA. She graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, ME with a degree in Latin and English. In 1936 she married her college sweetheart, Vincent Kirby, and resided in Washington, DC and Silver Spring, MD. In 1970 they retired to their residences in Corea, ME and Venice, FL. In Venice, she was a member of PEO, the Mayflower Society, and College Club. She attended the Prospect Harbor Methodist Church and Venice United Church of Christ. She was predeceased by her father and mother, her husband Vincent, and her sister Frances Morrison Zwinck. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Stewart and husband Paul of Corea, ME; son Paul Kirby and wife Deirdre of Jasper, GA; grandson Michael Kirby and fiancé Tony Jackson of Sullivan, ME; granddaughters Melinda Golovko and husband Michael of Chula Vista, CA; Meredith Dent and husband Eric of La Mesa, CA; four great-grandchildren Zachary, Meghan, Ryan and Sophia; nephew Steven Morrison and wife Janet of Raleigh, NC and Milbridge, ME and their daughter Cheryl Rauch and her husband Shane of Charles Town, WV.
A memorial service for Verna will be held on Thursday February 14th at the Venice United Church of Christ. A committal service will be held in the spring at the Evergreen Cemetery in Milbridge, ME.
