W. Russell Clough, 95, formerly of Cleveland, OH passed away peacefully on Nov. 29, 2013.
He was born in Brooklyn, OH to Walter and Nora Clough. He moved to Sarasota in 1978. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Pat; daughters, Karen Miller of Tempe, AZ and Sharon (Jerry) Balkenhol of Cincinnati, OH; granddaughters, Michelle (Jeff) Gregorec and Tammy Carrick and great grandson, Jaxon Gregorec all of Phoenix, AZ. Russ is preceded in death by his sister, Norma Reineck Musat and brothers, Howard and Robert Clough. He also leaves his nephews, Paul Reineck, Paul Clough and Curtis Clough and nieces, Jan Bardetta and Jill McBride.
Russ graduated from Ohio University. He served in WWII, first as a Naval Gunfire Liaison Officer. After he was wounded in the Sicily invasion he was assigned to the Admiral's staff on board the Battleship USS Texas (BB-35) in time for the invasion of Normandy. He continued to serve in the Pacific until the war's end. Russ earned the Purple Heart, Bronze and Silver Star. After the war he rejoined the M.A. Hanna Company (now PolyOne Corp.) retiring in 1978.
He and Pat enjoyed most mornings with friends under the palms at Siesta Beach. He was a faithful friend of Bill W for 39 years.
