Walter A . Mainberger, 91, of Venice, FL, and Popponesset, MA, died on July 14, 2013. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Fri., at St. Patrick Church, 7900 Bee Ridge Rd in Sarasota, FL.
Aug. 2. Memorial Mass at 11AM, followed by Service with Military honors at 12:30 pm at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72. Survived by loving wife of 68 years, Trudie (Parr) Mainberger, sister Anita Sweet, brother-in-law Al Parr. Father of Walter (Joanne), Robert (Susan), Marie Mainberger, and Anne (Lee Kornfeld). Grandfather of Dale (deceased) and Stacy Mainberger (Michael Williams); Lindsay and Jason (Kelly) Walus. Great-grandfather to Damon, Shane, Scott and Benjamin. Uncle of Stephen, Andrew, William, Virginia, Fred, Barbara and Erich. Born in Wurzburg, Bavaria, Germany, naturalized US Citizen, Electrical Engineer, PE. Received a BEE from CCNY and a MEE from NYU. Instructor at CCNY. WWII Navy Veteran served on USS Intrepid. Retired Project Manager from ITT Avionics in 1985. Designed & developed the Atomichron (world's first commercial atomic clock), and many advanced defense electronic guidance systems. Life Member of IEEE, and ACBL. Enjoyed duplicate bridge, fishing, classical music and Fox News. Memorial donations may be made to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum
