Francis McQuaig Obituary

McQuaig, Francis M.
Dec. 24, 1928 - May 27, 2011

Fran was born in Peterborough, Ontario, and became a US. citizen after his family moved to Rochester, N.Y. He married his high school sweetheart, Virginia, and retired early from Eastman Kodak so they could spoil their seven grandchildren (Jonathan, Timothy, Laura, Kimberly, Derek, Alana and Bill). After moving to Florida more than 20 years ago, their babysitting duties for the Derco family grew to expanding the circle of those they held dear. Their grands married (Roni, Ken, Kevin, Jay, Kelly) and great-grands (Nicholas, Samantha, Matthew, Ryan, Corrine, Caitlin, Jack, Lia and Will) brought love-filled moments. Fran and Virginia ("Moe") celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on April 10.
Moe, along with their four daughters, Debra Jacobs (Bill Buttaggi), Brenda Malloy (Donald, deceased), Marla Smith (Dale) and Norah McQuaig encourage friends and family to celebrate Fran ("Dad"/"Pop")'s life by buying a lottery ticket, nibbling chocolate, taking a swim, reminiscing with family photos, going out to breakfast, singing a song around a campfire or jumping in the car for a road trip.
In appreciation for every Pines employee for their professional and loving care over the past three-plus years, memorial contributions can be given to the Pines of Sarasota Foundation to benefit the Activities Department at 1501 N. Orange Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34236.

Dear Debra:
Parents are a constant reminder of how much God loves us. We receive parents freely, never deserve them, and count on them constantly, regardless of our age. Theirs is the thumbprint on our soul. In all times they are with us. To them our debt is eternal, but they have no interst in collecting debts from their children. Like the God they imitate, they only want what is best for us.

While I never met your father, your traits of service to others and partnership of efforts give me a window into his impact on you. For these reasons and many more, you can celebrate his life, as you also mourn his passing.

Be assured that your father, you and your family have my prayers. I will offer my Mass today for all of you.

May God bring you consolation and peace and may He bring your Father to his eteranl reward.

God bless you.

Our thoughts are with you all. I shall always remember the joy that Fran brought to every occasion. I know you will miss him. He's probably organizing "Whose Got The Ring" in heaven.
With Love,

Virginia I was sad to find Fran's name in obituary yesterday. Sorry that you have had this happen so soon after your friend Mable passed away. Let me know if you need anything. I know your family is here with you now but I will see you in a few weeks at Red Hat if not before.

Love Carol

Dear Virginia and all your dear family members,
Please know that your loss is shared by many and I know that your beloved Fran is up in heaven with the angels smiling, happy and whole in mind and body. Virginia, you are an amazing lady and we are so grateful for your love, strength and kindness. You are an example to us all and we thank you for just being you ... a very easy person to love and be close to. We are here for you whenever you need us, just say the word...
God Bless you all and may Fran rest in God's eternal peace...
