Clarence Austin Bryant, 94, of Sarasota died May 15, 2011.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Bowling Green Cemetery in Bowling Green.
Survivors include three nieces and two nephews.
Mr. Bryant was born to Clarence and Ida Bryant in Bowling Green, Hardee County, Fla., the eighth child, of five girls and three boys. He came to Sarasota in 1939 to work with his sister and brother-in-law, Minola and Jack McKown. They had established McKown's Food Market, which they ran with his brother, Ralph Bryant. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on May 19, 1941, and was commissioned 2nd Lt. in 1944. He retired from active duty Nov. 28, 1976 with the rank of Lt. Colonel.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial donations to the Scholarship Fund of the First United Methodist Church of Sarasota, or to the Scholarship Fund of the First United Methodist Church of Bowling Green.
