Fr. Jack D. Bowling, 85 of Sarasota, FL, Howe, IN and Raymond, ME husband for 60 years of Louise (Foster) Bowling passed away peacefully at the Village at South Farms, Middletown, CT on Thursday, January 9, 2014. Born in Huntington, West Virginia on January 7, 1929, he was the son of the late Oakley Denver and Mae (Vincent) Bowling.
Fr. Bowling is a graduate of The McCallie School and then attended and graduated from Vanderbilt University. He completed his studies in theology at The Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, MA. Later in his life, Jack received an additional Master's degree from the University of Maine.
Ordained to the Episcopal priesthood in 1955, Fr. Bowling served as Chaplain at the Howe School, Howe IN; and as a member of the clergy at The Church of the Advent, Boston, MA; St. John's Episcopal Church, Sturgis, MI; the Church of the Redeemer , Sarasota, FL; and a founding father and Dean of St. Michael's Youth Conference from 1960-2010.
In addition to his priesthood, Fr. Bowling was a faculty member on staff at Glen Oaks Community College, Centreville, MI for 22 years as a professor of Psychology.
Fr. Bowling is survived by his wife, Louise (Foster) Bowling; his son Stuart K. Bowling and his wife Sallie of Topsfield, MA; his daughter Beth (Bowling) Clausen and her husband Chris of Pelham, NY; his daughter Kathryn A. Bowling of Chicago, IL and three grandchildren Abby Bowling and Nicholas and Andrew Clausen.
Following cremation of his remains, a celebration of Fr. Bowling's life will take place at a Solemn High Requiem Mass in the spring of 2014 at the Church of the Advent in Boston, MA.
