Clarence Buckingham Atkins, 80, of Bradenton since 1990, formerly of Long Island, New York, died on Apr. 11, 2013.
Known as 'Cal' to his friends and family, he was born April 15, 1932 in Bristol, Connecticut. He was the son of Richard Leigh Atkins and the former Mary Elizabeth Slater. Cal graduated from Colby College in Waterville, Maine and was a member of the Zeta Psi Fraternity. He started his long career in communications and became District Manager of New Jersey Bell Telephone in New Jersey. He was a member of the Rotary Club & Kiwanis International. He retired as an executive of NEC America in Melville, New York and Dallas, Texas in 1998. He moved to Florida in 1990, got tired of retirement and worked part time as the starter at the Longboat Key Club Golf Resort of Longboat Key, FL. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Bradenton, The SaraBay Country Club and served as a director of the Whitfield Ballentine Manor Association in the early 90's. Cal is survived by his wife of 46 years, the former Anne-Heather McPhee; four daughters, Cindy Atkins of Hillsborough, NJ, Pamela Barth (Douglas) of Toms River, NJ, Jennifer Stone (Edward) of Bradenton, FL and Laurie Moulliet (Scott) of Sarasota, FL; sister, Suzanne Ott (Eric) of Vero Beach, FL; two grandchildren and his devoted pound rescue dog, Deacon. Memorial service 11:00 AM Saturday April 20, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church of Bradenton. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 26th Street Chapel in charge.
