"The Light Keeper's Daughter"
Oct. 5, 1938 - May 15, 2013
Dian Dacie (McKeithen) Miller, entering this life, via speedboat from Egmont Key, FL to St. Petersburg's Mound Park Hospital, began an interesting start for Dian, growing up in the shadow of the Egmont Key Lighthouse. In 1941, the U.S. Coast Guard transferred Light Keeper, Cody W. McKeithen, wife Viola, daughters Joyce and Dian to the Port Boca Grande Lighthouse, Gasparilla Island, FL. Thus began ten of the most memorable years of Dian's young life. Life surrounded by nature, in the beautiful Port Boca Grande Lighthouse (The Lady), on a vast beach by the Gulf of Mexico. Hobbies of shell collecting, fishing, exploring and memories of Island Life have been the topic of many articles and talks Dian has given over the years about a bygone era. In 1963 Richard (Dick) Miller and Dian married in Sarasota, FL and started a family of their own, Kimberly, Richard, Karla, John David and many animal companions made it complete. Happy family years followed, boating, camping, fishing, diving, then backpacking the Appalachian Trail, a trip to England with dear friends and last but not least, traveling (with pups and grandchildren) aboard their motor home 'Miller's Legacy' across this beautiful United States, Western Canada as well as the Canadian Maritimes. Dian always felt, "Life has been a beautiful journey, facing some valleys but always continuing 'up the Mountain' toward Home." Survivors include beloved husband and soul mate Richard John (Dick) Miller, Sr.; daughter Kimberly Dian Miller; grandson Andres; son John David Miller (Christine); grandsons Michael and Andrew; son Richard John Miller, Jr. (Pamela); granddaughter Ashley Dian (Seth) Collie and great granddaughter Emma Grace; grandson Cameron Joseph Miller; grandson Stephen Miller; daughter Karla Renee Miller; grandson Anthony Ryband; granddaughter Rebecca Adcock and great granddaughter Delanie; sister Joyce (Raymond) Kuhl and beloved pup 'Lady'. Family, friends and loved ones are invited to Memorial Services for Dian on June 22, 2013 from 4 pm - 7 pm at Myakka State Park.
