Doris Craig Lloyd of Sarasota passed peacefully and full of love on Tuesday Oct 30th.
Doris was a proud, strong woman, sweet and loyal friend, loving mother, devoted daughter and occasional wife. Born the daughter of a Tennessee railroad worker on August 15, 1938, her family moved to Louisville, KY when she was a child where she developed a great love of living near water. She worked for Ford Motor Co. for 35 years and held her own in a male dominated world. She became an avid boater on the Ohio River, was a proud member of the Kentucky Colonels and became a fixture of the Kentucky Derby. As a young woman Doris fell in love with Siesta Key and in 1975 bought property in Aloha Kai. At the age of 53 she fulfilled her dream and retired to her favorite place in the world, Siesta Key. For more than 20 years she loved her life in Sarasota. She was involved in the Sarasota Butterfly Club, a member of the Gulf Gate Moose and an enthusiastic volunteer at both the Gulf Gate Library and Historic Spanish Point. She became a world traveler, a gardener and beach comber. In her last days she said "If you don't like your life, change it!" She continues to inspire us all!
Doris is survived by daughter Kristi Lloyd, son-in-law Joe Wu, her beautiful grandsons Jackson and Dylan, beloved friends Debra Robinson, Skip Borland, Les Burton and Sandy Pree. She was predeceased by her precious son Michael MacIntyre and her mother Jozelle Craig.
A Celebration of life will be announced for the spring.
Donations in memory of Doris may be made to Tidewell Hospice or Gulf Gate Library.
Arrangements are by Jennings Funeral Home & Crematory.
