Edward (Ted) Dodds Obituary
Dodds, Edward (Ted)
Apr. 13, 1939 - Jan. 2, 2018
Edward (Ted) Dodds passed away at his home in Venice, Florida on January 2, 2018, after a long illness. Ted Dodds was born in London, Ontario, Canada on April 13, 1939. His family later moved to the United States. Ted volunteered to join the United States Air Force, and served as an aircraft cargo handler in Vietnam, and as a Load Master in Germany.
In his civilian career, Ted enjoyed being an artist and master of heraldry. He managed the Lewiston Heraldry store in Lewiston, New York, and later in Venice, Florida after his move south in 1994.
Ted was an active member of the Civil War Patrol, holding rank of Major. He joined the local Venice Squadron in 1995, later served as commander of the Niagara Falls Squadron in upstate New York, and rejoined the local squadron when he returned to Venice in 2014.
Ted Dodds was also a life member of the VFW, Post 8118, serving as their surgeon in Venice. He was a valued and effective liaison between the two organizations. Through his efforts, VFW Post 8118 and the CAP Venice Cadet Squadron forged an ongoing partnership in recognizing Veterans in the Venice, Florida Community, and assisted the VFW in their ongoing efforts to support youth programs.
The Venice Cadet Squadron was very fortunate to have Major Dodds as a member. He will be sorely missed.
Toale Brothers Funeral Homes Ewing Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
