Eric A. Kolm of Sarasota died Feb. 3, 2009.
There will be a visitation for close friends and family from 3 to 5 p.m. today in the lobby of Bay Plaza Condominium Complex.
Arrangements are by Toale Brothers Funeral Homes, Colonial Chapel.
Born Sept. 7, 1927, in Vienna, Austria, and raised in Trevose, Pa., he was educated at MIT and the Sloan School of Management in Cambridge, Mass.
He was a prolific inventor and scientist, producing numerous patents, applications and products that have been part of the industry and economy for decades. Of mention, he was the inventor of the Clapper, and received the DuPont Award for Outstanding Achievement in Non-Destructive Testing. He was a visionary and humanitarian, a master chess player, cellist, and photographer.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Glazer Kolm; a son, Dr. Lukas Kolm, and his wife Rebecca Goldberg; a granddaughter, Lily Kolm; and his stepchildren Erik Berger, Susan Sherman, and Lisa McGuirt; his brother Dr. Henry Kolm and his daughters Margaret Kolm, Juliet Gibbs, Edna Dripps, and Cornelia Cesari.
He will be deeply missed, always loved and forever in our memories and lives.
Donations can be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
