Esther Roberta Long was born in Fostoria, Ohio on September 30, 1919 to parents Robert Sibley Long and Juanita Braley Long. Her family included Georgette and Frank Braley, Juanita's parents. She was blessed by having wonderful parents and grandparents. Esther attended a one-room country school for eight years and later graduated from Fostoria High School. Following high school she attended Bowling Green State University for two years, then transferred to Ohio State University, where she received her bachelor's degree. After college she obtained a position with the Air Force in Dayton, Ohio. For the next 23 years, Esther worked with the Air Force and also attended night school to earn both her MBA and PhD degrees.
She taught at community colleges and for the State of Ohio, retiring from her teaching career in 1984 from Ohio Northern University at Ada, Ohio. In April 1940, she married Paul E. Walden and enjoyed a happy marriage until his death from cancer in 1967. After retiring, Esther moved to Florida, and in 1994, married John F. Dishon. They lived happily in Sarasota until John died in 2005. Esther then moved to Bradenton and purchased a condominium. She was a talented jewelry maker who enjoyed beading and shared her creations with friends and family. She continued to live in Bradenton until her death at the age of 94, and is survived by John's children Suzanne Kirar (Michael), John F. Dishon III (Robin) and Kevin Dishon.
Esther always enjoyed a high energy level and good health. We are very grateful to Virginia, Felecia and Ruth for their devoted care and thank them for the comfort and companionship they provided her. We would also like to thank the staff at Tidewell Hospice for the compassion and care they provided to Esther and her family as she completed her final journey.
