Dr. Frank J. Wierichs, Jr., 67, died at home after a two year battle with lymphoma. Frank served the south Sarasota County community for 35 years as a neurologist. He was a member of the Sarasota Medical Society; a Board-certified neurologist with the American Academy of Neurology; and a friend, mentor and leader to the staff and patients of Venice Hospital, where he served one term as chief of staff. After a youth spent in Eagle River, WI, and Arcadia and Sarasota, FL, Frank graduated Saint Leo Preparatory School in Dade City, FL. He attended the University of Florida where he graduated with honors, and then attended Emory University Medical School, where he earned membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honorary society. He undertook his medical internship at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, and then was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, serving most of his two years at Eglin Air Force Base, FL. He completed his residency in the Emory University Hospital System in Atlanta, whereupon he and his family moved to Venice, FL, in 1977 to establish his practice.
