Rev. Janet Regina Hyland

Janet Hyland Obituary

Hyland, Janet Regina
Oct. 9, 2007

Rev. Janet Regina Hyland went home to be with the Lord to whom she devoted her life, seeking God and working for the Good. She was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
While living in Virginia she worked for the diocesan newspaper, The Catholic Virginian. While in Texas she worked with The Assembly of God's prison ministry, and upon coming to Florida she worked with Migrant Ministries through the Catholic Church and Sarasota-Manatee Farm Worker Support Committee. Her love for animals consumed her last 20 years, in which she was very active with the Sarasota in Defense of Animals, participating in adoption programs, peaceful public demonstrations, and fostering animals in her home. She had two books published, books that became the standard in the animal rights movement, "The Slaughter of Terrified Beasts" and "God's Covenant with Animals." She was profoundly respected by leaders in this movement.
She authored hundreds of articles and publications under the auspices of Humane Religion.
Janet will be remembered as a person of integrity, wit, charm, intelligence and a sense of style.
She is survived by her loving sister, Jean Burns of Sarasota.
Cremation with Dignity Entrusted thru Jennings Funeral Homes & Crematory, Sarasota.

Even though I wasn't able to see Regina more than a few times, she was a great help to me through emails and her passionate writings about the plight of animals. Just knowing she was on earth doing the work was a constant inspiration for me. I like to think she is still sending inspiratioh to all of us as we carry on. Thank you, God, for giving us the precious times we shared with her.

Regina
was a very special person and I and many others will sorely miss her. I found
her writings inspirational and very helpful with my research. Regina
was
always very supportive of my efforts. I just wish there were many
more like
her, with her sensitivity, compassion, persistence and willingness to work
for a more humane world.

"To live in the hearts of those we leave
behind
is not to die at all," and in that sense, Regina will live on forever.

Regina was not only my friend but also my mentor and a great comfort to me. When frustrated by church attitudes towards animals Regina always had the right answers and I will miss her input.

Dear Jean and friends,
It was an honor to know her. I'll always remember when I received her hunting pamphlet while living in hunting country with no computer (or knowledge of one). It was a letter from heaven when I received it. She was always kind and helpful. I was honored to be mentored and encouraged by her. We were glad to have her on God's Creatures Ministry's board and will miss her.
Sincerely,
Jan

Hello Jean, my sympathy to you, I'm sorry to learn the sad news. I'll always remember Janet, she was special. The other note here from Maria speaks for me too, we're both sad for you. Rudy.

Janet will always be remembered and respected and loved. It was a blessing, the way we met and her kindness to me. Deep sympathy to Jean, and my sympathy to Lilly and Beau-Beau, and all extended furry family. I'm very sad, but I know Janet is with our Lord and Heaven is an even better place now. Sassy and others have had their awaited reunion. Janet is an example to us all that one person can be so generous with love and care for all creatures, nonhuman in need, and human in need. Earth has lost one of her purest lights. Love from Maria.

Dear Jean, Janet will be deeply missed by all of us at Sarasota In Defense of Animals. It's a HUGE loss to the animal community as well as the rest of us. She dedicated her life to helping the animals. See you at the Rainbow Bridge!
