John J. Hayden, Jr., of Nokomis, FL passed away suddenly surrounded by his family.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Barbara Anne (Bingham) Hayden, son Michael Hayden of Ossining, NY, daughter Kathleen Hayden Morrison-Kennedy of Charlotte, NC, grandchildren Sarah and John Morrison of Rockaway, NJ, and his brothers William Hayden, Robert Hayden, Richard Hayden and Donald Hayden. He was preceded in death by his sister Eleanore Hayden.
A graduate of Norwich University VT, Joe was a first lieutenant tank commander in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany before pursuing a career in engineering.
As a civil engineer, Joe specialized in suspension bridge construction and was in charge of several high profile bridge projects including the lower span of the George Washington Bridge in New York, the Mackinac Bridge in Michigan and the Karnali River Bridge in Nepal.
He was an avid golfer as well as a championship horseshoe player at his summer cottage in Babcock Lake, NY.
A service will be held at Farley Funeral Home in Venice, FL Feb. 27, 2013 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the
in his memory. There will also be a memorial service at the Saratoga National Cemetery in Saratoga, NY this summer.
