Marie L. Steele born April 21, 1912, passed away surrounded by her family at St. Anne's Retirement Home two weeks after her 100th birthday on May 7, 2012. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Marie married and embarked on a new life with Howard in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, eventually setting in Fort Wayne, Indiana for the last 65 years. Marie's activities included St. Jude's Rosary Society, The Newcomers, The Marians, Woman's Club, St. Francis Bridge Group, and raising her four children. Marie was a devout Catholic passionate about her faith. She was survived by her four children, Terri (Dick) Zurbuch, Joanie (Dan) Diefenbacher, Tom (Twilla) Steele, and Nancy Steele; her sixteen grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; and her great-great-granddaughter. Marie is survived by her sister, Claire (Murphy) Hoffman; and her brother, Joe Murphy. Preceding her in death were her husband of 61 years, Howard A. Steele; her grandson, Michael Zurbuch; her two sisters; and two brothers. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2012 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Road with calling one hour prior. Monsignor John Suelzer officiating. Calling also from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at D. O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road with Rosary at 4:30 p.m. Burial will follow the service in the Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne.
