Philip Hubert Des Marais, 91, of Sarasota, FL, died on May 19, 2012. Services will be held at 10:00 am on Wed., at St. Martha's Catholic Church with burial at 12:00PM in Sarasota National Cemetery in Sarasota, FL. Funeral arrangements by: Toale Brothers Funeral Homes.
He is survived by his wife, Louise his daughter, Monica and John Murphy his sister, Jean Batten of Edina, MN his three grandchildren, Abigail Selter, Dylan Murphy and Regan Murphy and by his four great grandchildren.
Philip was born in Minneapolis, MN and graduated from the University of St. Thomas. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII in Germany. He studied at Georgetown University, taught political science at St. Thomas and was a vice president at St. Mary's Dominican College in New Orleans, LA. He served as Deputy Assistant Secretary at HEW in the Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon Administrations. He moved to New York City to work at Fordham University and was a member of the Holy See Observer Mission to the United Nations. He finished his career at St. Thomas and retired to Sarasota in 1986.
