Richard was born in New Jersey and raised in Lakeland, Florida. He was a resident of south Sarasota County since 1971. Served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1958. Attended the University of Oklahoma briefly with disappointing results. Later attended and graduated from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. Graduated from the University of Florida Law School in December 1964. He is survived by his wife Janet, daughters Ciennne Dix and Lura Lentz (Daniel Lentz), granddaughters Abigail and Ellen. Janet, sorry I´m late to the soirée. Dick was a guy I wish I had befriended years before I did. Times at the Hazen compound were memorable as well as evening jaunts for wine & food or a special night with the Moodies in Ft Misery. Whether saving your boat in the wake of Elena´s wind and waves (sorry you missed that Labor Day party) or a relaxing bit of storytelling on your deck it was all fun. If I knew somehow that our last convergence would be a wine at the Crows Nest I would have surprised you with a bear hug before letting you go. Adios

As young business owners in Venice, we could always count on Dick for good sound advice and guidance. He and his wife Janet are kind, caring, down to earth people. We will miss Dick but we will never forget him. Our thoughts and prayers to you Janet.
