Sheila Winifred (Seery) Van Lede, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Tidewell Hospice House, in Sarasota, on June 27 after a long illness. She was born in Montreal, Canada to Agnes and Daniel Seery in 1930, the eldest of six children. Her parents emigrated from Ireland to Canada, and then the United States. Sheila grew up in and around NYC, received her degree in Nursing from Philadelphia General Hospital in 1953 and married her best friend, Bob, in September 1953 in Villemeux, France. They moved to New York City in 1954, to New Rochelle, NY in 1957, and to Sarasota, FL in July 1968. Sheila was a stay home mom devoted to her family. They were active Field Club members.



Bob and Sheila traveled often throughout Europe, went to fabulous places and met celebrities and dignitaries through the years, but her happiest times were at home with family. Sheila was an elegant and classy lady who will be remembered for her lovely smile which could light up a room.



Sheila is survived by her loving husband, Bob, of 61 years and four devoted children, Chantal, of Shrewsbury, MA, Lorraine Van Lede Brown and her husband, John, of Bradenton, Susan, of St. Petersburg, and Christopher and his wife, Rhonda, of Atlanta, GA., ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, five siblings, Maureen Hanson of Rochester, NY, Daniel Seery of Glastonbury, CT, Kay Thiel of Ann Arbor, MI, Brian Seery and his wife Barbara of Los Angeles, CA and Veronica Collins and her husband Bill of Orlando, FL, as well as many nieces and nephews and her cousin, Tom Doyle and his wife Kathy of St. Petersburg.



A Celebration of Life Mass will be scheduled for family and friends at The Church of the Incarnation at 2929 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota on Friday, July 11, 2014 at noon, immediately followed by a reception in the church hall. Donations in Sheila's memory may be made to the Tidewell Hospice House in Sarasota, Florida.
