Vincent Amoroso Obituary

Amoroso, Vincent
October 28, 1947 - January 20, 2018
Vincent Amoroso passed away suddenly of a subdural hematoma on January 20, 2018, while vacationing in Jackson, Wyoming. He was enjoying life to the fullest at the time of his death, as he always did.
Vince was born in Italy and came to live in Schenectady, NY when he was five. He finished college at the State University of New York at Albany and completed the requirements to become a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries shortly thereafter. He worked for Aetna Life and Casualty Insurance Company in Hartford, CT and then moved to Washington, D.C., where he worked as an actuary for the Internal Revenue Service and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.
After his government work, Vince became a consulting actuary and worked for KPMG Peat Marwick in the national office. He later held a similar position at Deloitte & Touche LLP. Throughout his career, he supported the actuarial profession through volunteer work, including service on many committees and on the boards of the Society of Actuaries, the Academy of Actuaries, and the Conference of Consulting Actuaries. In addition, he served as president of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries.
Vince embraced his hobbies with the same enthusiasm and drive that he applied to his work. He was a passionate cook, a lover of movies, and a student of wildlife of all kinds. He loved learning about new things and trying new recipes. One of his favorite activities was entertaining at home, and he was in his element with a dinner table full of people enjoying his food and his stories. He loved nothing more than sharing feasts and laughs with friends and loved ones.
Vince was also generous to strangers (although some would say he never met one.) He shared his cooking skills and his lively personality while preparing and delivering meals for Meals on Wheels in Sarasota; he also enjoyed preparing and serving meals for participants in programs at The Haven and at his church, First Congregational United Church of Christ in Sarasota. In addition, he worked serving food at the Salvation Army in Sarasota and at the Welcome Table in Asheville, North Carolina, where he spent summers. He firmly believed that no one in this country should ever be hungry and consistently did what he could to implement that belief.
Vince is survived by his wife, Tam Milton, and their son, Michael Amoroso, who will miss his vibrant presence in their lives. A Memorial Service is planned at 11:00 on February 17 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 1031 South Euclid Avenue, Sarasota, FL 34237.

Vince was a very friendly and giving person. I cannot thank him enough for his volunteerism at The Haven and on behalf of Friends of the Haven. Vince made the world a better place and the world will miss his smile and warmth and generosity. Rest in peace, Vince

I have many fond memories of Vince, both professionally and personally. Professionally, he was respected for his deep knowledge and his engaging manner; when Vince spoke, people listened. Personally, I was fortunate to have been the recipient of Vince's famous hospitality, and can confirm that no one was ever a stranger in Vince's eyes. Truly an unforgettable man, my deepest condolences to Tam and Michael.

You will be missed my friend

January 29, 2018

Vince has moved on to add joy to those who are now around him. His new friends will enjoy his wit, energy, intelligence and smile. They will be equally as entertained when he displays his less than perfect qualities, although nothing pops into my head worth mentioning.
For those of us he left behind it is sad thinking about the loss that death brings to friends and loved ones, those that are, and those who would have been.
I have had, and will have, fond memories of those times we shared working(mostly), and playing together while I worked at the Internal Revenue Service and while he flited around from private practice to IRS and PBGC governmental service. For those of you who aren't pension nerds, you should know that he was a star whose work lives, and will live,on.
He was a great public servant in the best sense of the word.
I miss you, Vinc

I had the pleasure of hiring Vince at Deloitte toward the end of his amazing career. I was honored that he decided to join us. Besides being a fantastic partner, he was a wonderful human being. He will be missed terribly.

I will fondly remember my dear larger-than-life friend (and one-time roommate) forever. The world has lost one of its special people. Except for holding on to the special memories, we are all poorer without him in this world.

I will always remember his powerful enthusiasm about almost anything; his common knowledge, curiosity, intelligence and humanism. In the "kitchen" , MOW, we usually worked next to each other and shared the recipes we learned from our mothers, talked about the movies and the books he read recently. I loved to call him with his musical Italian name "Vincenzo" and he often called me "Mr. Turk".
I will miss him a lot.
