Chancellor Richard Pickett, 87, of Northampton, Mass., formerly of Fort Meyers and later of Venice, Fla. died peacefully April 8, 2012 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home in Holyoke, Mass.
A memorial service and reception will be held Sunday, April 29 at 11:30 a.m. at the Garden House at Look Park on Route 9 in Northampton, Mass. The O'Brien Funeral Home of Easthampton, Mass. has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Survivors include his three children, Molly Pickett and her husband, Steve Tirrell, of Wellesley Mass., Jack Pickett and his wife, Julie, of Morrisville, Vt., and Lucy Pickett of Florence, Mass.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
President of Robert Morris College in Chicago, Ill., in 1983. He retired from Robert Morris in 1996. His 46 years of service and contributions to the field of education were recognized with the Claude Pepper Award for Distinguished Service in 1988 and an honorary doctorate of law from Indiana Institute of Technology in 1993.
He was involved in many civic organizations, including Rotary for over 60 years, the Elks, the VFW and various chambers of commerce.
